Journey Theater presents ‘Singin’ in the Rain’

Opening night for the classic ‘Singin in the Rain’ is set for July 25 at Heritage High School as Journey Theater proudly brings musical mayhem to Clark County

Businesses always have to stay relevant to try to keep up with modern times.

By doing so, though, Monumental Studios found itself with a bit of a problem.

Monumental Studios opted to turn Duelling Cavalier, a silent film, into The Dancing Cavalier, a musical picture.

The problem? Their star, Lina Lamont, can’t sing, and she can’t really talk. Lina’s voice sounds something like nails on a chalkboard.

That’s the premise behind the classic, Singin’ in the Rain.

Journey Theater of Vancouver proudly presents four performances of Singin’ in the Rain, with opening night set for Friday, July 25 at Heritage High School.

In Singin’ in the Rain, Kathy Seldon, an aspiring actress, has the dulcet tones that are able to cover Lina Lamont’s — calling into question what it means to act, how credit is distributed, and what it means to get a fair shake in the movie business. This play includes some of the best-loved comedy routines, dance numbers, and love songs.

That would include: “Good Morning”, “Make ‘em Laugh”, and, of course, the show-stopping dance number “Singin’ in the Rain.”

Journey’s production of Singin’ in the Rain opens July 25 at 7 p.m. There are two shows on Saturday, July 26: 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. The show resumes the following week, as well, with two shows on Friday, Aug. 1: 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. And then a final show at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.

Tickets are on sale now at journeytheater.org or by calling 360-750-8550. Adult tickets are $26. Youth and senior citizens are $22. Tickets are $2 more at the door.

Organizers recommend this play for ages 10 and older.
